Dr. B. K. Prasanna received his foundational surgical training in the Department of Surgery at JIPMER, Pondicherry, under the mentorship of Dr. Vikra Kate. As a high-volume tertiary care institution, JIPMER provided him with extensive exposure to a diverse range of surgical conditions. During this period, he was actively involved in the daily management of inpatient wards, outpatient departments, and operation theaters, which helped him develop strong clinical and surgical skills.

After completing his post-graduation, Dr. Prasanna continued at JIPMER as a Senior Resident, playing a key role in managing emergency surgical services, outpatient care, operating theaters, the surgical ICU, and ward patients. This experience further strengthened his competence in handling complex and critical surgical scenarios.

During his residency in Surgical Gastroenterology, Dr. Prasanna was deeply involved in the management of advanced gastrointestinal pathologies, including malignancies. He is proficient in managing a wide range of surgical emergencies such as trauma, intestinal obstruction, and gastrointestinal perforations.

Dr. Prasanna has assisted in numerous complex surgical procedures, including:

• Fundoplication
• Heller’s cardiomyotomy
• Whipple’s pancreatoduodenectomy
• Right and left hepatectomy
• Radical cholecystectomy
• Extrahepatic bile duct excision

11. Emergency laparotomy for polytrauma (damage control surgery)
